Chasen - 100-Prong Bamboo Matcha Whisk (Ceremony)
The essence of matcha, in its purest form
The chasen is the soul of matcha preparation. Without it, no silky foam, no released aroma, no ritual. This model, carved from a single piece of bamboo by an artisan, features approximately 100 fine tines — the reference density for the Japanese tea ceremony.
Features
- Material: Solid natural bamboo, hand-carved
- Tines: ~100 fine tines (ceremonial grade)
- Height: ~10 cm
- Style: Wabi-sabi, natural untreated finish
- Included: Chasen only
Preparation
2g of matcha (1 level chashaku) in 70ml of water at 75-80°C. Hold the chasen vertically, whisk in a rapid M or W motion for 15 to 20 seconds until a fine, stable foam forms.
Care Instructions
Before first use, soak the chasen for 30 seconds in warm water to soften the tines. After each use, rinse with clear water (never soap), shake gently, and let dry standing on a kusenaoshi (dedicated stand) or suspended — never flat. With this care, your chasen will last 6 to 12 months with regular use.
